How old? E hia ngā tau?
You have already learnt that e hia? is used to ask how many things there are. Now we can progress and learn how e hia? is also used to ask how old someone is.
Hei tauira:

How old are you? |
| Tekau mā rua aku tau. |
I'm 12 years old. |

| E hia ana tau? |
How old is he/she? |
| E rua tekau mā tahi ana tau. |
He/she is 21 years old. |
Remember the rules of counting, if the number is one or 10 to 19, omit the ‘e’.
