Mā wai?

Mā combined with e is used to form a future tense with the emphasis on whom or what will perform an action. This pattern is the future equivalent to the past tense pattern of nā wai...i. Note that the verb never takes a passive ending in these two sentence patterns nor are stative verbs used with these.

Hei tauira:

Mā wai te tēpu e whakarite?	Who will set the table.
Mā Te Hererīpene te tēpu e whakarite.	Te Hererīpene will set the table.

Mā wai ngā kākahu e horoi?	Who will wash the clothes.
Mā Eruera rāua ko Neihana ngā kākahu e horoi.	Edward and Nathan will wash the clothes.

Mā wai a Mīria e whakahoki ki te kāinga?	Who will take Mīria back to her home?
Māku ia e whakahoki.	I will take her back.
