I for past actions

You have already learnt that kua and ka are used before verbs. I is used before verbs when actions are in the past, i.e. to indicate past tense.

Hei tauira:

I haere ahau ki te toa. I went to the shop.
I pātai au ki a ia. I asked her/him.
